Abstract

Introduction: One of the most crucial elements in evaluating whether a medical curriculum is successful; is its educational environment. The relationship between the learning environment and students' satisfaction, success, and achievement has been declared. The aim of this study is to investigate the educational learning environment, using the DREEM questionnaire, to undergraduate medical students of the new innovative medical program in Mansoura Faculty of Medicine. Methods: A cross-sectional observational descriptive study conducted on 431 undergraduates’ students during the academic year 2023/2024, a google form DREEM questionnaire were distributed to all 5-year levels. Results This study revealed that the main area of strength with median score 4 was in Students' Academic Self-perception (SAS) domain while the main area of weakness with median score =1 was in Students' Social Self-perception (SSS) and Students' perception of learning (SPL) domains. Significant correlation between Students' perception of Teachers domain and gender (P =0.023); while significant correlations were detected between the domains SPL, SAS, SPA (Students' Perception of Atmosphere) and educational phases (P = 0.001, 0.001, 0.002 respectively); and domains SPL, SPA, SSS showed significant differences (0.004, 0.014, 0.03 respectively) with the programs, while significant differences only detected regarding domain SSS and nationality (P=0.406). conclusions: The median DREEM score of students showed that preclinical students perceive the learning environment better than clinical students do with no significant effect of gender or nationality. Manchester program students perceive the learning environment better than conventional program students. The main strength area is the integrated case based strategy.
